Do I Need a Skin Supplement? It Depends.
When it comes to skin health, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer—especially when it comes to supplements. Depending on your needs, supplements can be a good option. But navigating can be tricky as it is not well regulated. So let’s start by getting the facts. Then what I would encourage to ask is: What does your skin actually need?
The Good & The Bad of Skin Supplements
The GOOD - Supplements can be helpful if you're missing key nutrients in your diet. If you struggle to get enough vitamin C, zinc, or collagen-boosting ingredients from food, a well-chosen supplement might help fill the gap.
The BAD - More isn’t always better. Overloading on certain vitamins (like vitamin A or biotin) can cause imbalances or even lead to skin issues. Supplements also vary in quality, regulation, and transparency—so what’s on the label isn’t always what’s inside.
Can Food Do the Job?
In many cases, yes. Eating enough Nutrient-rich foods like berries, nuts, fatty fish, and leafy greens provide essential vitamins and antioxidants that support skin health—which may be more effective than a pill. I always encourage to start with Food First, the supplement with, well.. a supplement, if needed.
How to Know What You Need
Before adding a supplement to your routine, take a step back and assess:
✔️ What’s your current diet like?
✔️ Do you have nutrient deficiencies?
✔️ Are your skin concerns tied to lifestyle, stress, or hydration?
